Faith Umoh

VICE CHAIR YOUNG PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT

Faith UmohFaith Umoh is a Nigerian-American who was born and raised in the United States and has roots that are deeply entrenched throughout the African diaspora. At just ten years old, she was the founder of her first humanitarian organization where she mobilized her friends to raise funds for disenfranchised youth. Later for her 21st birthday, compelled by the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, she requested to her friends and family that they support local women’s artisanal groups and donate to support Haitian Beading businesses. Immediately after graduating from the University of Florida with a Bachelor degree in Political Science and International Humanitarian & Development Assistance, she packed two suitcases and moved to rural Senegal to serve with the US Peace Corps. For over two years, she learned the local Wolof language so she could integrate into the village and foster collaborative relationships with key leaders to increase the capacity of the community.

Faith is the recipient of the U.S Department of Education’s Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowship, which funds her studies at the Boston University School of Public Health where she is pursuing her Master of Public Health with a focus in Global Health, African Studies, and Biostatistics. Recently, Faith interned with USAID and traveled to Monrovia, Liberia where she conducted an assessment with the Liberian National Malaria Control Program on Malaria in Pregnancy.

No matter her role, she remains a champion at using her platform to highlight the existential and rich qualities of the Continent. Faith believes that the African Diaspora Young Professionals Network holds all the keys to changing the narrative of Africa.
