Dr. Tony Ogiamien

Professor Tony OgiamienDr. Tony Ogiamien, a former Warder/Nigerian Police Officer and a Correction Officer (State Prison Rahway, New Jersey) attended Primary, Secondary Schools in Edo, Ondo and Eastern Nigeria.

He received his pre-legal education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford, New Jersey; Bachelor of Science in Law and Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law, Fullerton Campus, California. After his graduation with high honors in 1980, he joined the Founding Class of the Law Faculty, University of Benin in 1982.

In 1985, Dr. Ogiamien won the British Commonwealth Scholarship Award for doctoral studies in Reproductive Health Law and Ethics tenable at the University of Essex, School of Law, Colchester, England. He was awarded Ph.D. in Law in 1990.

Dr. Ogiamien returned to the Faculty of Law, University of Benin, promoted Senior Lecturer and Acting Head of Department of Business Law in 1990 and Dean of Law respectively until 1999. Guided under the tutelage of Professor Itse Sagay, he introduced Legal Methods course to the Nigeria Legal System and enforced dress code for law students when he became Dean.

Widely published, Professor Ogiamien developed the curriculum in healthcare law and bioethics at several universities in Nigeria and very well respected in this area. Between 1995 and 1999, Professor Ogiamien spent his spare time as education consultant and curriculum development. He retired from the University of Benin in 1999.

After relocating to the United States in the year 2000 he was appointed Professor at Trinity Law School. He later took up an appointment in 2002-3 as Administrator at Yuin University, Compton, California. Professor Ogiamien is a member of several local, state and international associations and boards.

Professor Ogiamien is a Barrister, Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court and a former member of the Council of Legal Education of Nigeria. He is widely travelled and has attended several seminars and conferences overseas.

Professor Ogiamien is President and Founder of American Heritage University of Southern California, (AHUSC) United States of America. He became the First African/Nigerian to be granted a License to establish the institution in 2004 by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). A branch campus is underway at the NUC.

AHUSC was established for adults who must have completed two years of undergraduate studies and primarily to assist motivated individuals to complete what they started in Law and Business Administration

The University participates in Cross-Border education and currently maintains academic partnerships with universities in Macedonia, Dubai, Malaysia, Nigeria, India and Zambia.

In terms of public service and extra curricula activities, he was a member of the Implementation Committee of Igbinedion University in 1999.

He is married and blessed with children.
